To support compliance with Hawaii’s charitable solicitation requirements, Shop for Good functionality is limited for customers located in Hawaii.
These changes affect how Shop for Good widgets and Portion of Sales campaigns work when a customer is located in Hawaii. For customers outside of Hawaii, your campaigns will continue to operate normally.
What changes for customers in Hawaii?
Shop for Good donation widgets
Customers located in Hawaii will not see Shop for Good donation widgets on participating stores.
Portion of Sales campaigns
For Portion of Sales campaigns, purchases made by customers located in Hawaii will not be included when calculating the donation generated by the campaign. For example, if your campaign donates 5% of qualifying sales:
A qualifying purchase from a customer outside Hawaii will continue to generate a donation as usual.
A purchase from a customer in Hawaii will not be included in the campaign's donation calculation.
Because of this, you may occasionally see a difference between the Shop for Good Analytics calculation of your Portion of Sales donations and your store's total sales.
How is a customer's location determined?
For the purpose of excluding Hawaii purchases from Portion of Sales donation calculations, Shop for Good uses the location information associated with the customer's order.
Widget availability is determined based on the customer's location when visiting the store.
What if my store is based in Hawaii?
A store's location and a customer's location are treated differently. Hawaii-based stores may still be able to install and access Shop for Good. However, Shop for Good is not supported for use within Hawaii.
This means:
You will not be able to view Shop for Good widgets normally while accessing your storefront from Hawaii.
Customers located in Hawaii will not see Shop for Good donation widgets.
Purchases from customers located in Hawaii will not generate Portion of Sales donations.
Customers located outside Hawaii can continue to see eligible Shop for Good widgets and participate in campaigns.
Purchases from customers outside Hawaii can continue to generate Portion of Sales donations.
As a result, Shop for Good may not be appropriate for stores whose customer base is primarily located in Hawaii.
Does this affect my campaign for customers outside Hawaii?
No. Your Shop for Good campaigns can continue to operate normally for customers located outside Hawaii.
The Hawaii restrictions apply based on the customer's location, not simply because your store sells to Hawaii or because your business is located there.
Why is DailyKarma making this change?
Act 205 (2024) amended Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 467B, with the new charitable solicitation requirements taking effect January 1, 2026. Hawaii subsequently expanded those requirements in September 2026.
Among other changes, the law expressly regulates charitable fundraising platforms and includes online platforms that list or reference charities to receive donations or recommended donations based on purchases or other activity performed by platform users. The law establishes requirements relating to registration, disclosures, charitable organization consent, reporting, recordkeeping, and charitable sales promotions.
To ensure Shop for Good operates in accordance with these requirements, DailyKarma is limiting Shop for Good fundraising activity involving customers located in Hawaii.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will customers in Hawaii see an error message?
No. Shop for Good donation widgets simply will not display to customers accessing your store from Hawaii.
Will a Hawaii customer's purchase still appear as a normal Shopify order?
Yes. These changes affect Shop for Good fundraising functionality, not your Shopify checkout or your ability to sell products to customers in Hawaii.
If I run a Portion of Sales campaign, will the Hawaii purchase itself be blocked?
No. The customer can purchase from your store normally. The purchase simply will not be included when Shop for Good calculates the donation generated by your Portion of Sales campaign.
If my business is located in Hawaii, can customers in other states still participate?
Yes. Customers outside Hawaii can continue to participate in eligible Shop for Good campaigns. For Portion of Sales campaigns, qualifying purchases from customers outside Hawaii can continue to generate donations.
Can a Hawaii-based store test its Shop for Good widgets?

Does this affect donations that have already been processed?
No. The change applies to Shop for Good activity going forward. Donations that have already been processed are not reversed or recalculated as part of this change.
